Biography

Mitul Luhar joined the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Southern California as an Assistant Professor in January 2015 and was appointed the inaugural holder of the Henry Salvatori Early Career Chair in 2020. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2021. Before his tenure at USC, Luhar was a Postdoctoral Scholar at the Graduate Aerospace Laboratories of the California Institute of Technology. He earned his Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2012, alongside Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cambridge in 2007. Luhar's core research expertise lies in fluid dynamics, focusing on aerodynamic and hydrodynamic design, coastal protection, river restoration, and environmental science through a combination of laboratory experiments and modeling.
