Moduk Koo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Art History, Cinema, and Audiovisual Media at the University of Montreal, as well as in the Center for Asian Studies. She obtained her doctorate in Cinematic Studies from Paris Cité University and has taught at various institutions in France, including the National Institute for Oriental Languages and Civilizations (Paris), the École Normale Supérieure of Paris, and Paris Cité University, before joining the University of Montreal in 2024. Her research focuses on the connections between cinematic, television, and poetic images, exploring the interplay between aesthetics and politics as well as aesthetics and history. Currently, she investigates the relationship between gaze and violence, and between control and vulnerability in contemporary South Korean series and cinema. In addition, she works as an audiovisual and literary translator.
