Dr. Moeen Cheema

Biography

Moeen Cheema is an Associate Professor at the ANU College of Law and an Australian Research Council DECRA Fellow, with considerable experience in research, teaching, and consultancy in the fields of comparative public law and criminal law, particularly in the context of legal and political developments in South Asia. His interdisciplinary research draws on critical approaches to law, focusing on areas such as constitutional politics, judicial review, criminal justice systems, the intersection of state and Islamic law, and post-conflict state-building reforms. He holds an LLM from Harvard Law School, an LLB (Honours) from the University of London, and a PhD from the Australian National University, where he studied the history of law courts in postcolonial Pakistan.
