Dr. Mohamad Bydon

Biography

Mohamad Bydon is the inaugural Chair of Neurological Surgery and a Stahl Professor at the University of Chicago. He serves as the Co-Director of the Neuroscience Service Line at the University of Chicago Medicine and is the Neurosurgeon-in-Chief at the University of Chicago Health System. Dr. Bydon earned his B.A. from Dartmouth College, completed a post-baccalaureate program at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and earned his M.D. from Yale University School of Medicine. He completed his neurosurgery residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital and underwent further training in Complex Spine Surgery and Spinal Oncology. Before joining the University of Chicago, he practiced at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where he held endowed full professor roles and focused on surgical outcomes and international development. Dr. Bydon has established multiple nationally recognized programs in robotic minimally invasive spine surgery and has a busy practice specializing in complex spine surgery and spinal oncology. He is a principal investigator in a laboratory focused on data analytics related to surgical outcomes and clinical trials involving spinal cord injury, and is an active speaker on topics related to his research. His contributions include over 600 peer-reviewed manuscripts and numerous book chapters and abstracts.
