Biography

Mohamad Mikati, M.D., is the Wilburt C. Davison Distinguished Professor of Pediatrics and Professor of Neurobiology at Duke University. Since joining Duke in 2008, he has made significant contributions to the fields of pediatric neurology and epilepsy. His clinical research focuses on characterizing and developing therapeutic strategies for pediatric epilepsy and related neurological syndromes, specifically the Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood and other drug-resistant pediatric epilepsy disorders. With over 290 peer-reviewed publications, including 41 book chapters, his work has garnered more than 10,497 citations, leading to an h-index of 58. Mikati has held several prestigious positions, including Chief of the Division of Pediatric Neurology and has directed research programs at Boston Children’s Hospital prior to his tenure at Duke. His leadership roles extend internationally as he has served as President of the Union of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean Pediatric Societies and in various capacities within the International Pediatric Association and UNICEF. His dedication to research and education is evident in his mentorship roles and numerous honors, including the Merritt Putnam American Epilepsy Society Fellowship Award and the Hans Zellweger Award for contributions to Pediatric Neurology.
