Biography
Mohamady El-Gaby is a PhD Research Fellow in the Department of Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford. His research interests focus on the use of internal models to support flexible behaviour, with particular emphasis on the integration of neuronal firing and connectivity in the processing of external information and internal goals. This work addresses how healthy and psychiatric conditions influence the generation of sophisticated and adaptive behaviours. El-Gaby completed his undergraduate studies in Biochemistry at the University of Oxford and subsequently pursued a Master's degree in Neuroscience at University College London. He developed a growing interest in cognitive neuroscience, culminating in a PhD at the University of Cambridge, where he examined synaptic mechanisms underlying memory formation under the supervision of Ole Paulsen. He returned to Oxford as a postdoctoral scientist, where he worked with David Dupret on hippocampal neuronal dynamics related to memory, and Tim Behrens on algorithms that drive abstraction in the medial prefrontal cortex.
