Biography

Mohamed Abdelfattah is an Assistant Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Cornell Tech. His research interests focus on deep learning systems, automated machine learning, hardware-software co-design, and reconfigurable computing. Abdelfattah aims to design machine-learning-centric computer systems that enhance efficiency in data centers and mobile devices. He received his B.Sc. from the German University in Cairo, M.Sc. from the University of Stuttgart, and Ph.D. from the University of Toronto. His doctoral studies were supported by the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship. Abdelfattah's Ph.D. research was recognized with several paper awards for his work on embedded networks-on-chip and Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs), which attracted significant industrial interest and were adopted by various semiconductor companies. Following his Ph.D., he worked at Intel’s programmable solutions group and Samsung, where he led a research team dedicated to hardware-aware automated machine learning. In 2025, Abdelfattah co-founded Mako, a startup focused on optimizing Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) computing efficiency.
