Biography

Dr. Mohammad Akbari is an Associate Professor at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto. He holds an M.D. and Ph.D. in Molecular Human Genetics from the University of Toronto. His research interests include genetic epidemiology, breast cancer susceptibility, and the development of genomic variation databases. He has completed a postdoctoral fellowship in genetic epidemiology at the Women's College Research Institute. He has received numerous awards for his work in cancer research, including the Emerging Leader Award from the Faculty of Medicine’s Alumni of the University of Toronto in 2019 and the Capacity Development Cancer Prevention Award from the Canadian Cancer Society Research Institute in 2014. Dr. Akbari is also widely published, with significant contributions to the understanding of hereditary breast cancer and liquid biopsy technologies. He is actively involved in projects aimed at enhancing genetic testing accessibility for breast and ovarian cancer in Canada.
