Biography

Mohammad H. Fadel is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto, where he has been a faculty member since January 2006. He completed his Ph.D. dissertation on legal processes in medieval Islamic law at the University of Chicago and obtained his JD from the University of Virginia School of Law. Admitted to the New York Bar in 2000, Fadel practiced at the law firm Sullivan & Cromwell LLP in New York City, dealing with a variety of corporate finance transactions and securities-related regulatory investigations. He has also served as a law clerk for the Honorable Paul V. Niemeyer of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and the Honorable Anthony Alaimo of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia. Professor Fadel has published numerous articles on Islamic legal history and the intersections of Islam and liberalism.
