Biography

Mohammad F. Islam is a professor at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. He received his Ph.D. in Physics from Lehigh University, where his research focused on the aggregation and adsorption behavior of polyelectrolytes. Following his doctoral studies, he joined the department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Pennsylvania as a postdoctoral fellow, where he worked on colloidal systems, specifically carbon nanotubes. Since joining Carnegie Mellon, Professor Islam has been recognized with several prestigious awards including the National Science Foundation CAREER award, the Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship, and the Kavli Frontiers Fellowship. He also received the George Tallman Ladd Research Award from the College of Engineering. His research interests include the development of self-healing materials and technologies leveraging carbon nanotubes, and he has actively contributed to advancing clean energy research through his work with the Scott Institute.
