Biography

Dr. Mohammed Rafey is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Chicago, specializing in nephrology with a focus on managing patients with kidney disease and hypertension. He has an extensive background in treating complex blood pressure disorders, particularly resistant hypertension and secondary hypotension resulting from dysautonomia. Dr. Rafey completed his training in Internal Medicine and Nephrology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, where he also completed a two-year fellowship in Hypertension. He is recognized as a Hypertension Specialist by the American Society of Hypertension, having been inducted as a Fellow in 2010. Dr. Rafey earned his Master’s in Clinical Research from New York University in 2007. Presently, he serves as the Director of the AHA Comprehensive Hypertension Center at UChicago Medicine and is the program director of their hypertension fellowship. He is actively involved in teaching fellows about kidney disease and hypertension and has served as the principal investigator on trials evaluating novel therapies for hypertension. Dr. Rafey has co-investigated five major trials related to kidney disease and hypertension conducted by the National Institutes of Health in the USA and has published over 40 original research papers and abstracts in peer-reviewed medical journals. He has also authored chapters in leading textbooks on Internal Medicine, Hypertension, Cardiology, and Nephrology. Dr. Rafey is a dedicated mentor to interns, residents, and fellows in clinical education and research.
