Biography

Mohammad Zulkernine is a Full Professor specializing in Software Reliability and Security at the School of Computing of Queen's University, Canada. He leads the Queen's Reliable Software Technology (QRST) research group and heads a university-wide multidisciplinary research center conducting cutting-edge research in cybersecurity. Zulkernine has taught and received education in four countries across three continents: Bangladesh, Japan, Canada, and Italy. He earned his BSc from Bangladesh (BUET), MEng in Japan, and PhD in Canada (Waterloo). Joining Queen's in 2003, he spent a sabbatical as a visiting professor at the University of Trento, Italy, and worked as a research scientist at Irdeto in Canada. He is cross-appointed in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Queen's. A senior member of IEEE and ACM, Zulkernine is a licensed professional engineer in the province of Ontario, Canada. His current research primarily focuses on building reliable and secure software systems, including cloud, connected vehicles, mobile operating systems, and the Internet of Things. His research projects are supported by various provincial and federal research funding agencies and industry partners. He has published over 175 peer-reviewed research papers, led 30 research projects, and collaborated on numerous industry-supported multi-university projects in European Union and Canada-Africa international initiatives. Additionally, he has held leadership positions such as general chair, organizing chair, and program chair at major research conferences and workshops. At Queen's, he has supervised over 70 MSc and PhD students as well as postdoctoral fellows, receiving a distinguished graduate supervision award for his efforts in guiding students who have won conference paper awards and distinguished thesis awards.
