Biography

Mohammed Rustom is a Professor of Islamic Thought and Global Philosophy at Carleton University, where he also serves as the Director of the Carleton Centre for the Study of Islam. An internationally recognized scholar, Rustom's academic work has been distinguished with several prestigious awards, including the Ibn ‘Arabi Society Latina’s Tarjuman Prize and the Templeton Foundation’s Global Philosophy Religion grant. His scholarly contributions focus on Islamic philosophy, Arabic and Persian Sufi literature, Quranic exegesis, and translation theory. Rustom has authored several notable works, including 'Triumph of Mercy: Philosophy and Scripture in Mulla Sadra' and 'Inrushes of the Heart: Sufi Philosophy of ‘Ayn al-Qudat'. He is also a co-editor of 'The Study Quran: A New Translation and Commentary'. In addition, he contributes to the editorial board of the Library of Arabic Literature published by NYU Press. His research interests lie in contemporary Islamic thought and cross-cultural philosophy, and he has published translations of key Sufi texts.
