Biography

Mohsen Khadem is a lecturer at the Centre for Inflammation Research at the University of Edinburgh. His research focuses on surgical robotics and image-guided therapies, typically addressing clinical problems in collaboration with surgical practitioners. Dr. Khadem actively develops therapeutic and diagnostic robotic instruments aimed at a wide range of medical applications. He works on designing and modelling robotic systems for invasive and accurate surgery, developing innovative control strategies for manipulative surgical robots, and integrating image guidance to enhance surgical precision. His main research interests include Surgical Robotics, Image-guided Therapies, Continuum Flexible Robots, Mechanics-based Modeling, Simulation Applications, and Control Theory. Before joining the University of Edinburgh in 2018, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Wellcome/EPSRC Centre for Interventional Surgical Sciences at University College London. He earned his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Alberta in 2017, an MSc in Biomechanics from Sharif University of Technology in Iran in 2013, and a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Shiraz University in Iran in 2010.
