Biography

Mohun Ramratnam holds an MD and serves as an Assistant Professor at the UW Comprehensive Diabetes Center, University of Wisconsin–Madison. His research focuses on the sulfonylurea receptor (SUR) KATP channels and their implications in cardiovascular disease. He is particularly interested in major pathways involved in pancreatic insulin secretion, including a splice variant of the SUR protein that appears to target mitochondria and influence the activation of mitoKATP channels. Ramratnam's work aims to understand how this splice variant affects metabolism and how modulation of the SUR can improve outcomes for patients with heart disease.
