Mona Riaz's career in dentistry began as a Registered Dental Assistant in 2008. In 2012, she graduated from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry with a Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene. Following her graduation, she held various positions in professional settings, starting as a clinical examiner for the Michigan Center for Oral Health Research. Throughout her career, Riaz has worked extensively in community-based settings, including coordinating the SEAL! Michigan School-Based Sealant Program in Wayne County, MI. Her academic journey commenced in 2014 when she became adjunct clinical faculty at the University of Michigan, where she had the opportunity to work with senior dental hygiene students during outreach rotations at the Western Wayne Family Health Center. From 2016 to 2018, she practiced clinical dental hygiene at the Community Dental Center in Ann Arbor, MI, while continuing to mentor dental hygiene students. In 2018, Riaz returned to the University of Michigan as a clinical research coordinator in the Department of Cariology and as an Adjunct Clinical Lecturer in the Division of Dental Hygiene. She is currently pursuing a Master’s Science degree in Dental Hygiene, aiming to further her career in academia and research. Her professional interests include teaching didactic courses that prepare students for the dental hygiene profession. She is a member of Sigma Phi Alpha-Nu Chapter, American Dental Hygienists' Association, American Dental Education Association, and International Association for Dental Research.
