Monica Anne Batac joined the University of Manitoba's Faculty of Social Work in June 2023. She is currently completing her PhD in Social Work at McGill University, focusing on the experiences of diasporic Filipino/a/x workers. Her interdisciplinary research program emphasizes community capacity-building and mobilizing Filipino community members in Canada. In 2018, she was awarded the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council. Monica is a critical qualitative researcher and community practitioner who incorporates feminist, anti-racist, and decolonial pedagogical approaches in her teaching. She works both formally and informally with students to develop their practice within their communities. Additionally, she is a co-founder and co-organizer of the Filipino Canadian Social and Community Workers Network.
