Dr. Monica Bell

Biography

Monica Bell is a Professor of Law at Yale Law School and an Associate Professor of Sociology. Her research explores the intersection of law and sociology, focusing on issues related to race, class, and inequality. Monica's scholarship addresses various topics including policing, violence, safety, welfare, and housing. She employs qualitative empirical methodologies in her work, which has been published in esteemed academic journals such as the American Journal of Sociology and the Yale Law Journal, as well as in popular outlets like Politico Magazine and the Washington Post. Monica has received several accolades for her scholarship and teaching, including the Yale Law Women Faculty Excellence Award and the Jane Addams Article Award from the American Sociological Association. She has also served on the editorial boards of the American Sociological Review and the Law & Society Review. Prior to her current role, she was a Climenko Fellow and Lecturer at Harvard Law School and has held fellowships with the Russell Sage Foundation and the American Association of Law Schools. Born and raised in Anderson, South Carolina, Monica is a Truman Scholar and earned her degrees from prestigious institutions including Furman University, University College Dublin, Yale Law School, and Harvard University.
