Biography

Prof. Kang's research focuses on understanding quantum gravity and quantum field theory, aiming to describe the universe at both large and small scales. As a mathematical physicist, she investigates the fundamental nature of quantum gravity and quantum field theory by discovering mathematical structures associated with quantum error correction. Her work draws contributions from a wide array of disciplines including theoretical physics and mathematics, conformal field theory, string theory, semiclassical gravity, quantum information theory, lattice gauge theory, and algebraic geometry. A central challenge within her research is determining low-energy observables in quantum theories, particularly those related to correlated and entangled quantum field theory which serves as a universal language for physics, capturing a broad range of phenomena. Prof. Kang's approach addresses this challenge by leveraging existing dualities and discovering new ones while constructing invariants, thus providing novel computational tools where conventional methods may fall short. Her research program develops new mathematical formalisms based on operator algebras and algebraic geometry to compute key physical quantities and explore non-perturbative aspects of quantum field theory.
