Biography

Professor Lakhanpaul graduated in Medicine in 1992 and trained in paediatrics, gaining a doctorate in Paediatrics and Child Health in 2003. She subsequently became a Senior Lecturer and Consultant Paediatrician at the University of Leicester and University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. In 2012, she joined UCL's GOS Institute of Child Health as Professor of Integrated Community Child Health. In 2016, she was appointed Head of Population, Policy & Practice. Her work follows a life-course approach and employs collaborative, participatory research methods to engage with communities, particularly in vulnerable situations, enhancing their voices to improve health and well-being. Her interdisciplinary efforts span health, education, and environment, supported by citizen science and creative arts, aiming to co-develop holistic and integrated solutions that facilitate translating research into clinical practice and health policy. Lakhanpaul also serves as an Honorary Consultant Paediatrician for Whittington Health NHS Trust and holds various esteemed positions including Global Strategic Academic Advisor in India, Co-Director of the CHIP Consortium, and National Patient and Public Engagement Lead at the NIHR GOSH Biomedical Research Centre.
