Biography

Monica Martinez Wilhelmus is an Assistant Professor in the Fluids Thermal Sciences Group at the School of Engineering at Brown University. She is also an affiliated scientist at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and has served as an adjunct professor at the University of California Riverside. She joined Brown in 2016 after holding a tenure-track faculty position and working as a postdoctoral scholar on a collaborative project in the Ocean Science group at NASA JPL. Dr. Wilhelmus earned her undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM) in 2010, followed by her M.S. in 2012 and Ph.D. in 2016 in Mechanical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). Her research combines experimental techniques and numerical analyses to understand transport phenomena at the intersection of biology, oceanography, and fluid mechanics.
