Biography

Monica E. Neugebauer is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Her research focuses on chemical biology and enzymology, particularly in the areas of metals biology, quantitative biology, structural biology, and systems & synthetic biology. With a B.S. degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, followed by postdoctoral work at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, Dr. Neugebauer has developed expertise in enzyme discovery and engineering. Her work leverages biochemistry and structural biology to explore enzyme mechanisms, particularly through the lens of metalloenzymes that facilitate challenging chemical transformations using earth-abundant metals. She is particularly interested in using directed evolution to discover new metalloenzymes and unlock their biocatalytic potential.
