Biography

Monica Peek, MD MPH MS, specializes in general internal medicine with a focus on preventive health for adults. She has a particular interest in reducing health care disparities and concentrates her efforts on diabetes care and breast cancer screening education for African American patients. As the principal investigator of multi-year clinical studies, Dr. Peek aims to improve diabetes care and medical outcomes for patients on the South Side of Chicago. She is also an inaugural Faculty Fellow at the Bucksbaum–Siegler Institute for Clinical Excellence at the University of Chicago Medicine, where she explores the racial and cultural barriers impacting physician-patient relations and shared decision-making. Dr. Peek is an invited speaker at local and national medical meetings and serves on the boards of several advocacy organizations, regularly engaging in community-based education activities. In addition, she is the author of over 60 peer-reviewed publications and abstracts that delve into health care disparities affecting minority populations.
