Biography

Monika Bauhr is a Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Gothenburg and a Research Fellow at the Quality of Government Institute. Her research investigates the causes and consequences of corruption, particularly the links between democracy and corruption, the role of transparency, and access to information. Additionally, she explores how corruption shapes public attitudes toward foreign aid, international redistribution, and the provision of public goods. She coordinated the ANTICORRP research program, a multidisciplinary project funded by the European Commission, and has been recognized with the Journal of Common Market Studies Best Article Prize for her contributions to the field. Monika teaches courses at all academic levels and supervises students in their theses. Her ongoing research focuses on the dynamics of women's representation in relation to corruption and the production of the European Quality Government Index, which captures citizens' perceptions of corruption and the quality of public services.
