Biography

Monika Jadi obtained her Ph.D. in Neuroengineering from the University of Southern California and completed her postdoctoral training at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, specifically in the Computational Neurobiology Laboratory. Currently an Associate Professor in the Departments of Psychiatry and Neuroscience at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Jadi's research focuses on uncovering the computational principles that are essential for flexible information processing in the brain. She employs cross-disciplinary strategies from applied physics and computer science in her work. Her doctoral research was notable for characterizing the computational flexibility associated with location-specific synaptic inhibition in active dendrites of neurons. During her postdoctoral work, she studied cortical network models and proposed new mechanisms by which cortical oscillations are controlled through direct and indirect stimulation of inhibitory neurons. Her current research endeavors include the utilization of computational modeling and data analysis methods, particularly in machine learning, to investigate computations, information flow, and the temporal dynamics of population codes, focusing on how these aspects relate to neuromodulation in columnar circuits of the cortex. Dr. Jadi has received the NIH Pathway Independence Award during her early years as a faculty member.
