Dr. Monika Krause

Biography

Monika Krause studied sociology and political science at the University of Munich, Cambridge, and LSE, receiving her PhD in Sociology from New York University. Her work has significantly contributed to the understanding of transnational forms of governance and the study of social organization, knowledge, and expertise. Monika's current research addresses the emerging forms and understandings of international and contested expertise concerning atrocities, as well as questions related to sociology and social sciences. She serves as an editor for the European Journal of Sociology. Prior to her role at LSE, she taught at the University of Kent and Goldsmiths College, and held positions as a Junior Fellow at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research at the University of Bielefeld, a Core Fellow at the Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies, and a Visiting Professor at the University of Trento and at LIER/EHESS in Paris. Additionally, she has been an elected member of the Executive Council of the Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics (SASE) and has held various roles within the American Sociological Association (ASA), including Chair of the Culture Section for 2022-2023. She received the Lewis Coser Award for Theoretical Agenda Setting in Sociology in 2019.
