Monique Desroches was a full professor in ethnomusicology at the Faculty of Music at the Université de Montréal, where she taught since 1988. She obtained her PhD in ethnomusicology from the Université de Montréal in 1986, focusing on Tamil ritual music in Martinique. She has authored numerous works in ethnomusicology, including books on Creole and Indian music in the Caribbean. Desroches has actively participated in university life and various committees, including international research committees. Since 2010, she has co-directed the Collection Musiques et Anthropologies at Harmattan, Paris, and has led various research projects related to music and cultural identity.
