Dr. Monique Rainford

Biography

Monique Rainford, MD, is an Assistant Professor at Yale Medicine specializing in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She grew up in Jamaica, where an early encounter with a pediatrician inspired her medical career. Initially aiming to specialize in pediatrics, her experience during an Ob/Gyn rotation shifted her focus. Rainford's work is dedicated to eliminating health disparities affecting African American women, who face higher pregnancy-related mortality rates compared to their white counterparts. She emphasizes the importance of lifestyle medicine and believes that with adequate support, women can overcome health issues through modifications in diet, exercise, and stress management. As a public speaker and author, she aims to raise awareness about maternal health issues and has published works such as 'Pregnant Black: Advancing Justice in Maternal Health in America' and 'The Maternal Glow: Jamaican Woman's Guide to Pregnancy'. Rainford is committed to addressing the unseen barriers faced by pregnant women and strives to improve maternal health outcomes through advocacy and education.
