Dr. Monique Van Der Veen

Biography

Monique van der Veen is a Full Professor at the Academic Centre Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA) with expertise in Paediatric Dentistry and Preventive Dentistry. She trained as an applied physicist at the University of Groningen, focusing on optics before shifting her research to dentistry, particularly in developing optical tools for caries and plaque assessment. Her academic career includes notable positions at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis and Liverpool University. Since 2007, she has been a part of ACTA, where her research emphasizes a transdisciplinary approach to health, aiming to address health inequalities through participatory action research. She is currently involved in several projects, including METAHEALTH and ORANGEFORCE, targeting innovative health care approaches and quality improvement in oral care. Monique is also actively engaged in overseeing various ancillary activities related to oral biology and contributes significantly to research on public health and health behavior.
