Biography

Monty Krieger is a distinguished researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he focuses on the study of cell surface receptors and the impact of cholesterol on normal physiology and diseases such as heart disease and infertility. He employs a range of methodologies, including genetic, biochemical, physiologic, chemical, cellular, and molecular biological techniques, to investigate the structure and function of cell surface receptors. His research has particularly concentrated on lipoprotein receptors, including the High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL) receptor known as Scavenger Receptor, Class B, Type I (SR-BI). The findings from his analyses have significantly advanced the understanding of basic biological processes and contributed to the comprehension of atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease (CHD), while also revealing a surprising link between cholesterol and female infertility in mammals. As of now, he is not accepting new students.
