Morgan Frost Karlsson is a PhD student at the Center for Social and Affective Neuroscience (CSAN) at Linköping University. His primary research interests center around social development, with a particular focus on the role of touch modality and how early caregiver interactions can influence neurodevelopmental psychiatric disorders. His work aims to investigate the links between social touch processing and bodily self-perception in populations with atypical social cognition, such as those affected by autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, and anorexia nervosa. By utilizing techniques including functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), as well as examining somatosensory evoked potentials (SEP), Karlsson seeks to uncover behavioral and neural markers of social touch processing and its impact on social cognition. He has previously completed his MSc in Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Skövde, where he conducted a thesis collaborating with the Gillberg Neuropsychiatry Centre and focused on social scene perception in autism spectrum disorder. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience from Boston University, with a primary focus on developmental neurobiology.
