Dr. Moritz Kraemer

Biography

Professor Moritz Kraemer specializes in Epidemiology and Data Science at the University of Oxford, where he co-leads the Oxford Martin School's Programme in Pandemic Genomics. His research employs novel, interdisciplinary approaches to investigate the dynamics and evolution of infectious diseases, focusing on critical epidemiological questions necessary for effective public health decision-making. This includes developing new methods that integrate techniques from mathematical modeling, statistical inference, and machine learning. His work also places significant emphasis on understanding climate-sensitive diseases and their outbreaks, such as dengue, chikungunya, and SARS-CoV-2. He is a co-founder of Global.health, a data science platform facilitating open-access data for outbreak analytics. Kraemer's research has been supported by prestigious funding bodies, including the Wellcome Trust and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He holds a DPhil in Statistical Epidemiology from the University of Oxford and has gained extensive experience through appointments at notable institutions such as Harvard Medical School and the University of California, Berkeley.
