Dr. Morris Bell

Biography

Morris Bell is a Professor Emeritus and Senior Research Scientist at the Yale School of Medicine, specializing in Psychiatry. With a career spanning over four decades, he has focused on developing interventions to restore cognitive work function in individuals with severe persistent mental disorders. His research has revealed cognitive impairment as a significant barrier to improving vocational outcomes. He has been at the forefront of developing cognitive remediation interventions that enhance work therapy supported employment outcomes. Dr. Bell has worked as a co-investigator on studies utilizing cognitive-enhancing medications and cognitive training for individuals with schizophrenia, and he has also extended his research to include substance abuse disorders and traumatic brain injury. Furthermore, he developed a Virtual Reality Job Interview Training program recognized as an evidence-based practice. He has secured funding from multiple organizations, including the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health, for various cognitive assessment tools and training programs. His contributions have extended to publications and collaborations with numerous researchers in the field of psychiatry, particularly focusing on social cognition and cognitive rehabilitation. Dr. Bell serves on the Institutional Review Board and was recognized by the American Psychological Association for his distinguished contributions to the field.
