Morris Cohen received B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University in 2003 and 2010, respectively. He served as a research scientist from August 2013, and prior to that, he was appointed as an AAAS Science Technology Policy Fellow at the National Science Foundation from September 2012 to August 2013. In Fall 2013, he joined the faculty of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology. Cohen is the recipient of several awards including the NSF CAREER Award in 2017, ONR Young Investigator Award in 2015, and Santimay Basu Prize in 2014 given by the International Union of Radio Science (URSI) for under-35 scientists. His research interests include investigating natural electricity phenomena on Earth, lightning, and the electrically charged upper atmosphere, with a focus on radio wave emissions and low frequency radio data related to global lightning geolocation and characterization. He has authored more than 60 journal publications and employs innovative teaching strategies to create engaging learning experiences. Outside of academia, he enjoys hiking, cooking, and traveling with family.
