Biography

Morten Bennedsen is a Niels Bohr Professor at the University of Copenhagen and the André Rosalie Hoffmann Chaired Professor at INSEAD, where he serves as academic director of the Wendel International Centre for Family Enterprise. He obtained his PhD in Economics from Harvard University in 1998 after completing a master's degree with distinction at the London School of Economics and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Copenhagen. His teaching focuses on family business governance, corporate governance, applied microeconomics, and firm theory. Bennedsen’s research primarily explores the governance of family firms and closely held corporations within a global context, with publications in prestigious finance and economics journals, including the Journal of Finance and the Journal of Financial Economics. He has authored a book titled "The Family Business Map: Assets, Roadblocks, Long-term Planning", and has received numerous awards for his research and teaching from the Danish Ministry of Science. Morten has been featured in international media such as BBC Radio and the Wall Street Journal, and he regularly writes columns for the China Family Business Review and South China Morning Post. He also acts as an advisor to various governmental ministries and consults for families across Europe and Asia regarding financial governance and succession planning.
