Biography

Professor Morteza Gharib is known for his multidisciplinary research in the fields of bio-mechanics, medical engineering, and fluid dynamics. His comprehensive research interests include conventional fluid dynamics as applied to aeronautics, vortex dynamics, and both active and passive flow control. He has made significant contributions in nano and micro fluid dynamics, which are critical in developing advanced technologies such as autonomous flight and underwater systems. His work extends to advanced flow-imaging diagnostics, where he pioneers new methods to understand fluid interactions in complex systems. His academic journey includes a B.S. from Teheran University and an M.S. from Syracuse University, culminating in a Ph.D. from Caltech in 1983. Throughout his career, he has held numerous prestigious positions, including Director of the Graduate Aerospace Laboratories and the Linde Institute, and has been a key figure in establishing programs that bridge engineering with healthcare.
