Biography

Morteza (Mory) Gharib is the Hans W. Liepmann Professor of Aeronautics at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Teheran University in 1976, a Master of Science from Syracuse University in 1978, and his Ph.D. from Caltech in 1983. Gharib has held various academic positions, including Professor of Aeronautics, Bioengineering, and Bioinspired Engineering. His research encompasses several domains, including fluid dynamics, vortex dynamics, active and passive flow control, and the study of nano and micro fluid dynamics. Gharib's work is also focused on biomechanics and medical engineering, especially in relation to the human cardiovascular system and the development of medical devices. He has served as Director of multiple institutes and held the Vice Provost position at Caltech.
