Biography

Moses H W Chan is a Professor Emeritus at the Eberly College of Science, specializing in Condensed Matter Physics. He received his Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1974 following his M.S. from the same institution in 1969, and a B.A. from Bridgewater College in 1967. Chan's research focuses on phase transition studies, especially in quantum fluids and solids at cryogenic temperatures, and involves reduced dimensionalities and the presence of disorder. His group is affiliated with the Center for Nanoscale Science and studies superconductors and infiltrated templated ordered porous hosts. Chan has supervised numerous graduate students and hosted postdoctoral scholars, contributing significantly to the understanding of transport, structural, magnetic, and thermodynamic properties in superconducting magnetic nanowires. He has been recognized with fellowships from the American Physical Society and the Japan Society for Promotion of Science, among other honors, and is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
