Mostafa Hassani is an Assistant Professor at Cornell University, jointly appointed in the Sibley School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering and the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. He completed his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano, where he graduated Cum Laude with the highest honors awarded by the institution. Before joining Cornell, he held a Senior Research Associate Lecturer position and a postdoctoral appointment at MIT. His research interests focus on the intersection of solid mechanics, structural materials, and additive manufacturing. He employs in-situ methods to understand the deformation and failure mechanisms of structural materials under extreme loading conditions, such as impact and high temperatures, and at small scales. By leveraging extreme conditions, he develops novel additive processes for metals, alloys, and composites. He makes use of advanced operando characterizations to establish process-microstructure-property relationships in a diverse range of solid-phase additive manufacturing processes.
