Biography

Muhammad Shehryar Khan joined the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Calgary in October 2025 as an Assistant Professor. He previously held the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. Khan also serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Waterloo, where he completed his BASc and Ph.D. in Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering. His research lies at the intersection of advanced manufacturing, materials science, and mechanical engineering, focusing on hybrid processing strategies that combine welding, coating, and additive manufacturing to design advanced structural materials. Khan has collaborated with industry partners, leading to significant publications, an international patent, and diverse research funding. He actively promotes the Hybrid Advanced Materials Processing (Hy-AMP) Lab to address manufacturing challenges in various sectors including automotive and aerospace.
