Biography

Muhammad Sahimi is the N.I.O.C. Chair of Petroleum Engineering and a Professor in the Mork Family Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at the University of Southern California. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Tehran in 1977 and his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Minnesota in 1984. His research focuses on effective properties of heterogeneous porous materials, characterization modeling of porous media, and multiphase flow including transport, reaction, adsorption, and deformation in heterogeneous media. Additionally, he has conducted extensive work in atomistic modeling of materials and applying deep learning approaches to complex media. Over his distinguished career, Sahimi has received numerous awards including the Northrup Grumman Excellence in Teaching Award and the International Society for Porous Media Lifetime Achievement Award. He has also held various prestigious visiting positions and was recognized as a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences.
