Dr. Muhammad Zafar

Biography

Muhammad Shahzad Zafar is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and the Department of Neurology at Duke University. He specializes in child neurology with a focus on clinical neurophysiology. Dr. Zafar completed his fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology at Duke University School of Medicine. He further pursued a Pediatric Neurology Fellowship at the University of Kentucky, where he served as Chief Resident in Pediatrics. His clinical training began with a residency at Maimonides Medical Center. He holds an M.B.B.S. degree from King Edward Medical University in Pakistan. Dr. Zafar is actively involved in multiple research projects and clinical trials such as studies assessing the long-term safety of Epidiolex and investigating therapies for syndromes like Dravet Syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. His research interests also extend to neonatal seizures and comparative effectiveness studies in epilepsy. Dr. Zafar has contributed significantly to the field with numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and remains engaged in advancing the understanding and treatment of pediatric neurological disorders.
