Biography

Mukul Sharma is a Professor and holds the W.A. (Tex) Moncrief, Jr. Centennial Endowed Chair in the Hildebrand Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. He received his PhD in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Southern California in 1985, and his Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Chemical Engineering from the same institution and the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, respectively. Professor Sharma is recognized for his significant contributions to research on hydraulic fracturing, oilfield water management, formation damage, and improved oil recovery. He has authored over 400 journal articles and conference proceedings, and holds 23 patents. His innovative work has received numerous accolades, including the SPE Honorary Membership in 2020 and being named a member of the National Academy of Engineering in 2018. He has also received prestigious awards such as the SPE John Franklin Carll Award in 2017 and the SPE Anthony F. Lucas Gold Medal in 2009. Professor Sharma is actively involved in various editorial roles and has contributed to the development of the field through teaching and mentorship.
