Biography

Mukund Gupta is an Assistant Professor at TU Delft, focusing on the Department of Geoscience and Remote Sensing since November 2023. He completed his Ph.D. in climate science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2020, after which he worked on physical oceanography and sea ice dynamics at the California Institute of Technology. His research is motivated by the interactions between oceans, the cryosphere, and the carbon cycle. Gupta is particularly interested in understanding the behavior of coupled systems, including the role of global-scale currents and kilometer-scale ocean turbulence on individual pieces of sea ice. He utilizes a range of tools to probe these processes, including Large Eddy Simulations, Discrete Element Models, and Global Climate Models as well as remote sensing techniques.
