Biography

Munira Khalil is a physical chemist whose research focuses on developing a microscopic understanding of coupled electronic, vibrational, and solvent degrees of freedom to optimize charge energy transfer pathways in molecular photochemistry. She received her B.A. in Chemistry from Colgate University and pursued her Ph.D. at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, completing postdoctoral research as a Miller Research Fellow at the University of California, Berkeley, and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory before joining the University of Washington in September 2007. Khalil's research achievements include receiving the Dreyfus New Faculty Award (2007), Packard Fellowship in Science and Engineering (2008), CAREER Award from the National Science Foundation (2009), Sloan Research Fellowship (2012), and Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award (2013). She was awarded the Journal of Physical Chemistry Lectureship in 2014 and named a Kavli Frontiers of Science Fellow in 2011. In 2017, she became a Fellow of the American Physical Society.
