Biography

Murat Arsel is a Professor of Political Economy at the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) at Erasmus University Rotterdam. He holds a doctorate from the University of Cambridge and has completed post-doctoral studies at the University of Chicago. He has served as the Keyman Family Visiting Professor at Northwestern University and is currently an Adjunct Professor at Universidad San Francisco de Quito. His research interests lie in development studies informed by political ecology, heterodox economics, and social theory, particularly focusing on the tensions between nature and capitalism and the prospects for emancipatory socio-economic change. Arsel is also the Chair of the Editorial Board of Development Change, and he teaches courses including Political Economy, Energy Law, and Climate Change Development at ISS.
