Biography

Murray Leibbrandt is a Visiting Professor at the Yale Jackson School of Global Affairs and a Professor at the School of Economics at the University of Cape Town. He is the Director of the Southern Africa Labour and Development Research Unit (SALDRU) and holds the DSD/NRF National Research Chair in Poverty and Inequality Research. He is also an IZA Research Fellow. Leibbrandt's primary research interests focus on issues of poverty and inequality in South Africa, labor market dynamics, and the utilization of survey data, particularly panel data. He serves as the Principal Investigator for the National Income Dynamics Study (NIDS) and has previously held the position of President of the African Econometric Society and the Economic Society of South Africa.
