Biography

Myfanwy Taylor is a Lecturer (Teaching) in Urban Economies Planning at the Bartlett School of Planning, University College London. She is a community and policy-engaged academic interested in questions of value, power, and democracy in local and regional economies, and their implications for planning policy. Myfanwy holds a Master's and a PhD in Urban Studies from University College London and co-leads the Bartlett School of Planning's Everyday Economies research cluster. Her academic work has focused on commercial displacement, anti-displacement struggles, community value in traditional retail markets, and bottom-up economic planning and development. Recent projects include Economic Development funded by the Leverhulme Trust and Markets4People, which is ESRC funded. Her research on markets, conducted with Professor Sara Gonzalez, has informed national and local debates and has contributed to key industry policy discussions. Myfanwy is a member of the Community Economies Research Network, the Small Business Anti-Displacement Network, and the International Network for Urban Research Action, as well as UCL's Economic Geography Network. She also contributes in a voluntary capacity as a Board Member for the Wards Corner Community Benefit Society and as a Trustee for the West Green Road/Seven Sisters Development Trust in Tottenham, North London. Before returning to academia, Myfanwy worked as a civil servant in the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government and the Cabinet Office.
