Biography

Mylene Lagarde is a trained economist specializing in Health Economics with a focus on low-income settings. Her interests in health were sparked by a two-year experience in Cameroon, where she served as a health financing advisor for the Ministry of Health. Lagarde began her academic career as a Research Fellow at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine before joining the London School of Economics (LSE) in September 2016. Her research utilizes applied economic analyses and empirical methods to understand the drivers of individual decisions made by patients and providers, aiming to inform current health policy debates in low- and middle-income countries. She is particularly focused on exploring the determinants of providers’ performance and the demand for healthcare services. In addition to her research, Lagarde serves as the Programme Director for the MSc Global Health Policy and teaches several courses related to health policy and economics at LSE.
