Biography

Nabora Reyes de Barboza earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and a Master of Science in Quantitative Systems Biology from the University of California, Merced. In her early career, she focused on signaling systems and studied the role of Nox proteins in hepatitis C during her master's studies. She completed her PhD at the University of California, Irvine, under Dr. Ken Cho, where her research involved the role of Bone Morphogenetic Proteins (BMP) in pre-implantation development. As a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, San Francisco, with Dr. Tien Peng, she investigated senescent cell signaling in lung regeneration. Her work has earned her prestigious awards, including the National Research Service Award F32, the University of California Chancellor’s Award, and the UCSF-CIRM Postdoctoral Fellowship, as well as the NHLBI K99/R00 Pathway to Independence Award. Dr. Reyes joined the faculty of the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology in July 2024.
